Yoga

There was a time when yoga asana was my primary tool for digging myself out of a dark hole. Having tried to rescue the world through frontlines activism in my late teens and early twenties, I ended up burnt out in the hospital in 2005. It became starkly apparent that I had to learn a new way of showing up- in the world and for myself- if I was to learn to thrive in/out here.

While in hospital, I received my first professional massage, and in the space of one hour, my mood, body and emotional space were transformed. Here, within, was the vitality and serenity I had been attempting to create out in the world. What a revelation. There was an ad for an upcoming course for aspiring massage- therapists on the wall of the studio and I enrolled on the spot. A year and a half later, I was certified in Swedish massage, practicing meditation and yoga daily and eventually went on to receive various certifications in yoga, herbology and various energetic practices as well.

Now with over fifteen years of experience teaching group and individual classes and hosting retreats, I currently offer yoga classes geared toward safe, fun and sincere practice for to practitioners of all levels. The emphasis on internal focus blends with cues for anatomical alignment to result in a balanced, holistic and rejuvenating practice. Sessions are tailored for your needs and aims, whether they be physical, emotional or spiritually- based.

Drawing from certifications in Yoga Therapeutics, Kripalu and Anusara- based yoga, my sessions incorporate occasional live music, quotes and poems from the masters, pranayama, meditation and asanas for specific pain and injury or simply for enhanced peace and ease.

Accustomed to teaching in yoga studios, private home settings, festivals, retreats, wellness events and corporate environments, I am ready to meet you where you’re at to usher in ease, grace and wellbeing.

Don’t Take it from me~

~ I met Lisa in Israel in 2011. I had done yoga before, but Lisa opened up a new world within the practice. I felt a deep sense of well being during and after sessions. She’s clear and loving and combines different approaches that really suit me. At that time, I was having a thyroid imbalance and she really helped me to overcome my symptoms through yoga therapeutics. I highly recommend working with Lisa. She’s the real deal, funny, spiritual and at the same time takes her work seriously!!

~ Lisa Shalom taught me yoga for ten years. I began the practices with her at a crucial point in my life, and I can’t overestimate how much I benefitted from them. The benefit continues. I’m happy that I now have the moves to feel confident enjoying a session on my own, or in a studio with a group. Yoga for me is both calming and energizing- physically and emotionally.

As a teacher, Lisa has an uncanny talent for picking up on what your body and mind need when you start a practice. With her wide-open spirit and sharp assessment, she designs the sequence of asanas and their timing to give you what you need on any particular day. She expertly guides you through the practice and gives you resets on moves that need them.

It's especially enjoyable to learn with Lisa outdoors in sunlight and greenery all around. Follow up the yoga with a Lisa massage, sensitive to what every muscle in your body requires, and you’ve got yourself a taste of blissfulness for the next few days.

~ Over the years, I have sought out and worked with many yoga teachers, attempting to find a practice that would be flexible enough to address where I was from physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual standpoint at a given point in time. About 2.5 years ago, I got to work with Lisa and found that her approach to teaching yoga not only met my needs, but was also fun and rejuvenating. Classes with Lisa helped me address several physical conditions (lower back pain, TOS, neck pain, etc.) and provided me with tools to navigate personal and professional challenges while improving my overall health. I continue to take bi-weekly private sessions with Lisa and I highly recommend working with her, be it in-person or remote.

~ I had the great pleasure of having Lisa as my yoga teacher. My wife convinced me to book a yoga session with Lisa, in hopes that it would alleviate the chronic pain I’d had in my legs and lower back for years. I was reluctant to try yet another modality, but Lisa was able to assess my needs and after our first practice together I was amazed to find that I was pain-free for the first time in a very long time. I became a devoted student after our first session. Lisa is a great teacher with a deep knowledge of the human body and soul. Highly recommended!
